How to Stay Healthy When Traveling in Winter

Traveling during the cold season can make you more prone to catching a common cold. Here are some things you can do during your trip to stay healthy.

Plan Your Exercises Out a Week in Advance

Sick to your regular workout routine so you don't get lazy on your trip. Pack a workout diary or write down your weekly workout plan the night before. Choose which workout routines or exercises you benefit from the most. Knowing what you need to do every day can help you stay motivated and on top of your fitness goals.

If you have no desire to head outside to workout, then workout at your hotel. Thanks to your smartphone or laptop, there are plenty of free streaming videos that offer a wide variety of workouts such as yoga, Pilates, strength training, cardio, and more. Check out YouTube for some of the best fitness content so you can workout inside your hotel room.

Eat More Green and Orange Vegetables

Watch what you eat during your trip. Any fruits or vegetables you intend to eat should be thoroughly cooked. Stick to eating vegetables and fruits that are dark green and orange colors. This will ensure that you're getting enough vitamins, nutrients, fats, fibers, and vitamins. Choose leafy green vegetables such as kale, spinach, and swiss chard. When it comes to orange, think carrots and oranges. There are plenty of ways to incorporate these fruits and vegetables into your diet.

Stay Hydrated Throughout Your Trip

Water is a must. People drink water for a reason. Not only does it keep you hydrated, but it also helps your body rid itself of the toxins. If you're spending most of your time up in the hair, it's important to stay hydrated when you travel. Drink so much water that you're urinating the same amount. If your urine is darker or cloudier than usual, you need to drink more water. Avoid alcohol on the flight since it can be very dehydrating.

Protect Yourself from the Sun

Whether you're lying on the beach or skiing on the slopes, you want to protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays. Wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or above, and that offers both UVB and UVA protection. Re-apply it every two hours and more if you swim, sweat, or have a light skin tone.

Wear sun-protective clothing and accessories for additional protection. Staying out in the sun can lead to heat stroke, sun poisoning, heat exhaustion, or sunburn. This can also lead to other health problems. To avoid these common problems, avoid spending too much time in the sun, especially during hot days. Drink more water on hotter days, avoid alcohol, and limit your physical activity.

Get Enough Sleep at Night

Not getting enough sleep can increase your chances of getting sick. Getting enough sleep is important, especially while traveling. Try to stick to the same sleep schedule when you're away. Avoid alcohol and caffeine at night, keep your room cool and dark, and avoid screens at least two hours before bedtime. You may even want to bring a sleep mask and earplugs with you to block to create a peaceful and restful environment.
